Advocacy Groups Raising Money To Help Pay Legal Fees For Immigrants Arrested By ICE

Two Latino advocacy groups in North Carolina are establishing a legal fund for immigrants arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The Raleigh News and Observer reports that the groups, El Hispano Centro of Durham and The Hispanic Liaison of Siler City hope to raise $30,000 in 30 days. The money will be used to pay legal fees for affected families.

It comes after ICE agents carried out raids across North Carolina last week, detaining some 200 people. And another 25 were detained at an arms manufacturer in Sanford. ICE says it’s being forced to carry out more at-large arrests after several North Carolina sheriff’s offices ended cooperation agreements with the agency.
