2 Dead After Train Hits Vehicle In Cabarrus County

Officials in Cabarrus County say two people were killed Monday afternoon after the vehicle they were in was struck by a train in Harrisburg.

Both people died at the scene, the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

No one on the train was hurt.

The names of the two people who were killed – or details about what led to the crash – were not released Monday afternoon. Deputies say the crash happened about 3:30 p.m. at the Saddle Creek Court rail crossing.

According to the Harrisburg Fire Department, there were 45 people on the Amtrak train, which was headed to Raleigh.

Law enforcement closed Saddle Creek Court for the investigation.
