Ivanka Trump, whose official title is Adviser to the President, visited the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville Wednesday morning to learn about the facility, which prepares students for careers in automotive-related fields.
After her tour, she participated in a panel that touted the benefits of vocational training.
“The reality is that we have to rethink fundamentally human potential," Trump said during the panel. "We can no longer have kids graduating from third grade not knowing how to read. We also can’t have kids who are leaving university without skills, but loaded with student debt.”
The panel also included two Republican Congressmen, Ted Budd and Richard Hudson. Budd, who represents the 13th Congressional District, is in what’s considered to be a tight race against Democrat Kathy Manning.
Trump was also scheduled to visit areas in eastern North Carolina flooded from Hurricane Florence.
She was in North Carolina a day after her father mocked Christine Blasey Ford during a rally Tuesday night in Mississippi. Ford alleged that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were teenagers.
She did not take any questions from the media during her Mooresville visit.
On Monday, President Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, was in Charlotte to announce the dates for the 2020 Republican National Convention. The RNC will be held in Charlotte Aug. 24-27.
