South Carolina is preparing to inaugurate a new Governor. Nikki Haley will take the oath of office tomorrow at 11 a.m. on the steps of the state capitol building in Columbia. Republican Nikki Haley will be South Carolina's first female - and first minority - governor. She's Indian American. But even in her victory speech last November, she downplayed those distinctions. "While this election's gonna be considered historic, you know what's gonna make this election historic? It's gonna be the work we do for you in January!" said Haley. She has promised to lower South Carolina's 10.6 percent unemployment rate. She'll also be tackling a budget shortfall of nearly $1 billion. One of her first official actions as governor will be attending a crucial vote of the state's budget and control board, set for Thursday. In keeping with her promise to spend wisely, Haley has vowed not to leave taxpayers holding the tab for her inauguration festivities. Private donations and ticket sales of $250 per couple will pay for a black tie gala in Haley's honor tomorrow night. A Family Fun Night at the state fairgrounds in Columbia has been rescheduled for January 22nd because of winter weather.
