The physicians leaving Novant Health say they're joining a private practice with a similar 'patient-first philosophy' to their own. The now 42 doctors leaving include the founder of Lakeside Family Physicians Dr. David Cook as well as several doctors from Huntersville OB/GYN.
Dr. David Cook and Dr. Ehab Sharawy are leading the move to join the multi-state private practice based in Tennessee Holston Medical Group. Cook and Sharawy said in a statement they’re working to minimize disruption to patient care during the transition. “Negotiations are still ongoing and as part of this process, leases for the facilities released by Novant have not been legally executed and are still under discussion.”
Monday, Novant Health specified which of the practice locations would remain affiliated with Novant and which would become part of HMG.
The doctors leaving say they are joining HMG because they are professionally aligned around it's 'duty to and obligation to patients.' The doctors said they plan to stay in the Charlotte area as they have for 25 years and continue to find opportunities to work with hospitals and community providers.
The doctors said they plan to be transparent in releasing information about the departure while being thoughtful about releasing legally agreed-upon details to avoid an 'environment of misinformation.'
An HMG spokesperson released the names of the now 42 physicians from both Lakeside Family Physicians and Huntersville OB/GYN that are leaving.
