MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A North Carolina woman is suing a South Carolina police department, saying officers used excessive force on her and contributed to a miscarriage she suffered in jail.

The Sun News reported Tuesday that Rashonda Deanna Frederick’s complaint says she was vacationing in Myrtle Beach in 2018 when officers woke her overnight, demanded she open the door to her hotel room and “violently” threw her to the floor. The officers were investigating an armed robbery in which suspects’ vehicles were tracked to the hotel.

Frederick contends she didn’t threaten officers. Frederick faces armed robbery and kidnapping charges in Horry County. The newspaper says nothing has been filed since January.

Myrtle Beach spokesman Mark Kruea said he wasn’t aware of the lawsuit, but the city doesn’t comment on ongoing litigation.
