  • Celebrate the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge with our 27th Annual Run for the Refuge! Support the conservation of Alaska's largest refuge by participating in this hybrid race, meaning you can participate in person or virtually. All proceeds go to the Northern Alaska Environmental Center's Arctic Program which advocates for the permanent protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

    For those outside of Fairbanks, participate by running, walking, hiking, biking, paddling, or another human-powered activity on a route of your own design between July 14-16th. Join the Northern Alaska Environmental Center's Facebook Event Page to discuss your routes and get inspired. Use #RunForTheRefuge and tag @NorthernCenter on social media to share your adventures!

    Regardless of location, registrants will receive Run for the Refuge iron-on patches. Register early to ensure we order enough!

  • In the summer of 2023, the Columbia Museum of Art hosts the exhibit “Resurgence and Renaissance: Art of the Catawba Nation Since 1973.” Building on the 1973 exhibit “Catawba Indian Trade Pottery of the Historic Period,” this exhibit revisits the original show and sale and highlights Catawba artists of the past 50 years. This talk will highlight artists and artwork featured in the new exhibit, discuss the original 1973 exhibit and its impact, and explore the diversity of Catawba Nation artwork.

  • Please join us at The Gallery at Warehouse242 for an Opening Artist Reception with Joanna Ruth Walker (nee Carter). This exhibition is titled: In/Flow. Seeking to bring to sight the comforting and present yet invisible realities she wants to recall to mind when battling anxiety, Joanna Ruth Walker composes graphite and ink drawings of figures of varying postures and dispositions enveloped in a flowing, white ornate covering. The artist will give a talk, and light refreshments will be served.
  • Join DKMS in honor of World Blood Cancer Day, as we celebrate a little early on May 20th.

    At the event, attendees will have the chance to learn more about DKMS and register as potential stem cell donors. Registering is quick and easy! All it takes is a 3-minute cheek swab to join the national registry. Anyone between the ages of 18-55 and in general good health can get registered.

    Every 27 seconds, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer and oftentimes, a blood stem cell transplant is their only option for a chance at a cure. Registering as a potential donor with DKMS means you could be someone's hope for a second chance at life.

    After you get registered, make sure to stop inside and get your Charlotte FC gear! 704 Shop has offered to continue the mission to delete blood cancer by donating a portion of the day’s proceeds!

    Matthews Playhouse is proud to partner with Indian Trail Parks and Recreation to present a week of summer performing arts camp in the Indian Trail Town Hall based on the Grammy, Tony, and Pulitzer Prize-winning hit musical, Hamilton! Children aged 8-15 will learn the real stories behind the iconic characters as they face off in epic rap duels, and learn choreography based on the original Broadway production.

    This fun-filled week will be capped off with a performance on the outdoor stage at Crossing Paths Park. The cost is $310, need-based scholarships are available. This camp will take place in Indian Trail Town Hall: 315 Matthews-Indian Trail Rd, Indian Trail, NC 28079.

    Federico is the newly appointed Senior Vice President of the Robinson Center for Civic Leadership at the Foundation For The Carolinas where he is charged with addressing Charlotte's greatest challenges and capitalizing on the region's most impactful opportunities. Federico will share his personal story, questions on his mind in his new role, his view of community, what he sees happening in neighborhoods that may lead to significant consequences to the city, and his hopes for the future.

    Connect. Consider. Ignite. The program runs from 6:15 PM to 8:00 PM including time for conversation, connections, and Q&A.

    Participate in the important questions of our time. The Forum is a conversation and speaker series that brings people together to explore challenges and opportunities that affect human flourishing through the lens of the humanities and civic imagination.
  • Come join us for great cars and great music at the 4th annual Rock and Roller Party and Car Show. This event will be held Saturday, June 10th from 4-7pm at Dogwood Park (121 Lester Davis Road).

    Set up for the car show begins at 3:30pm. Car show participants must be in place by 4:30pm to be eligible for the 6:30pm awards show. Space is limited to 80 cars, so register early!

  • The Anne Springs Close Greenway invites the finest restaurants and culinary experts in the York County area to participate in The Taste of Fort Mill. This outdoor event will host more than 700 guests and offer culinary samples from 20 culinary participants, yielding a cornucopia of delicious offerings. Culinary participants and their signature dishes change from year to year, making each event a unique experience for visitors and locals alike.

  • Fairy Day in the Daniel Boone Native Gardens is back Saturday July 8, 2023 from 1-5pm. This annual event is $2 for adults, and free for children and those dressed in fairy/elf attire, and is the Gardens’ largest annual fundraiser. New this year, a costume contest will be held at 2pm for the best dressed fairy and elf/woodland creature, with portraits by Bill Barber for the winners. And, with the winners’ permission, the portraits may also be used for some of next year’s Fairy Day promotional materials.

    The Watauga County Library, Watauga County Arts Council, The Children’s Playhouse, and the Blue Ridge chapter of NC Native Plant Society will be stationed in the gardens providing hands-on activities. Create lasting memories with a photo op with Ayla the Dreams Fairy as well as Fairy Brucie Abella while you stroll through the gardens to music by Mary Greene/others, or find a new perspective with intuitive guide, Catherine Walters.

    Enhance your fairy flair with Fake a Face painting, fairy hair, and henna painting. Among our vendors are: jewelry by Upcycled Everything, Barefoot and Brazen, Faeriefoots’ Doors and Gifts, printmaking by Andi Dandelion, High Country Crystals, and Peace of Green Succulents. They aim to provide steel toe boots and non-slip shoes to organizations helping our neighbors in need transition out of homelessness, so they can get the jobs needed to get back on their feet and regain their independence.

    Come out for delicious beer and sample and vote on 8-9 different mac & cheese dishes and vote for your top 3!

    Tickets are $15 each and $9 of each ticket sold will be donated to Good Soles.

  • This evening of musical indulgence pairs songs with scrumptious snacks. Throughout the concert, the audience will be served a variety of tasty bites which shows that “We Go Together” isn’t just a hit song from Grease that we will sing, but also shows how food and music make a great duet.

    Willy Wonka sang of pure imagination while offering up chocolate treats and so will we. Come hear ”Pure Imagination” while tasting delicious chocolate. If you love coffee, come sip a cup of hot coffee from the coffee bar, or enjoy the beautiful music while having a mocha flavored cold coffee as we sing “Jave Jive” and “Java Jazz”.

    The Chorale will perform different styles of music and the food reflects the variety. It’s not just about the sweet, but also about the savory. Chicken taquitos bites will be served as we sing the Spanish folk song “El Vito”. You will be tapping your toes at your next picnic after hearing our jazzy version of “Solid Potato Salad”.

    As the castle staff of enchanted objects in Beauty and The Beast sang, “Be Our Guest” for an evening of fun, beautiful choral music and bite sized treats.
