KERA Reporter Glenn Mitchell Dies

NPR listeners might recognize the name Glenn Mitchell. Glenn was a frequent contributor to NPR's news programs, filing nearly 200 stories over the course of almost 30 years.

During that time, he was also a reporter and talk show host based at member station KERA in Dallas. Glenn Mitchell died unexpectedly this past Sunday at his home there. He was 55 years old.

Glenn's NPR stories ran the gamut, from hard news pieces about gun control to sports stories about the Dallas Cowboys to coverage of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. But he had an affinity for the quirky story: a documentary film about what women say in the ladies room, or Dachshund races in Dallas. One of his last pieces was about the challenge obituary writers face in doing justice to their subjects. It would be hard to do justice to the range of Glenn Mitchell's interests but his station does him proud at its Web site.
