The Wood Brothers: Getting 'Loaded'

Anyone wondering what happens musically when north and south collide, look no further than The Wood Brothers. With Chris Wood's jazz sensibility and Oliver Wood's bluesy crooning, each brother brings a distinct style to their second joint effort, Loaded. The Wood Brothers recently stopped by World Cafe with host David Dye.

The siblings grew up together in Boulder, Colo., but when Oliver eventually moved to Atlanta and Chris relocated to New York City, their displacement offered varied perspectives in music. Oliver developed a feel for soul and the blues, while Chris grew to appreciate rock and free-form jazz. This may explain why their new album, Loaded, contains foot-stomping tracks alongside heartfelt ballads, including a reggae-tinged version of the Jimi Hendrix classic "Angel." Enlisting a little help from their friends Amos Lee, Pieta Brown, and John Medeski, Loaded succeeds as an eclectic sophomore record.
