Pit Bull Owner Charged In Girl's Death

The owner of two pit bulls is charged with involuntary manslaughter for the death of a 5-year-old girl in Union County. The pit bulls are owned by 23-year-old Michael Brandon Gordon. Earlier this month they attacked and killed his next-door neighbor - 5-year-old Makayla Woodard - while she was in her back yard. The dogs also attacked and injured her grandmother. The Charlotte Observer's Meghan Cooke has the story here. WCNC-TV's Jeff Campbell reports here that Makayla's family wanted more charges against Gordon. This case has prompted a review of animal control laws in Union County. Earlier this month, WFAE's Mark Rumsey spoke to the director of NC State's Animal Behavior Service about pit bull behavior. You can check that out here.
