The owner of two pit bulls is charged with involuntary manslaughter for the death of a 5-year-old girl in Union County. The pit bulls are owned by 23-year-old Michael Brandon Gordon. Earlier this month they attacked and killed his next-door neighbor - 5-year-old Makayla Woodard - while she was in her back yard. The dogs also attacked and injured her grandmother. The Charlotte Observer's Meghan Cooke has the story here. WCNC-TV's Jeff Campbell reports here that Makayla's family wanted more charges against Gordon. This case has prompted a review of animal control laws in Union County. Earlier this month, WFAE's Mark Rumsey spoke to the director of NC State's Animal Behavior Service about pit bull behavior.
