Senate Budget Kills Funding For Light Rail Line, Garden Parkway

The North Carolina Senate's version of the state budget guts funding for the northeast light rail line that Charlotte leaders want to build. It would also redirect money from the planned Garden Parkway, in effect killing the project. The Charlotte Observer's Jim Morril and Bruce Siceloff have the story here. The Senate is expected to approve its budget next week. Senate and House negotiators will then have to settle differences in their versions before sending a final budget to Gov. Perdue.
