Patty Griffin On Mountain Stage
Singer-songwriter Patty Griffin has been visiting Mountain Stage since the release of her second album, Flaming Red, in 1999. In the time since, Griffin has become one of the most respected musicians in roots music, with songs covered by the Dixie Chicks, Emmylou Harris, Martina McBride, Ruthie Foster, and many more.
Griffin's album Silver Bell grew to legendary status among Nashville insiders, as it remained shelved by record companies for nearly a decade and a half. When Silver Bell was finally released last year, Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines joked, "Now I can't steal from it anymore."
Griffin plays songs from Silver Bell here, along with an unexpectedly sublime Jimmy Durante cover. She's backed by her own band, including her longtime keyboard player, West Virginia native John Deaderick.
