Gov. Josh Stein said Monday that Daimler Truck Financial Services will move its North American headquarters to Ballantyne.
Stein said the headquarters move will bring 276 new jobs to Charlotte, consolidating positions in Michigan and Texas. The company handles financing and leasing for Daimler’s commercial vehicles, including Freightliner trucks and Thomas Built Buses.
The jobs will have an average salary of almost $134,000, well above the average in Mecklenburg County. To incentivize the relocation, North Carolina is giving Daimler Financial a $4.2 million grant, spread over 12 years.
Daimler operates a manufacturing plant in Gastonia, as well as operations in Mt. Holly and Fort Mill. It will invest about $8 million in its Ballantyne headquarters, which will total 60,000 square feet. The offices will be located in the 10-story Boyle Building in Ballantyne Corporate Park.
“Charlotte is the second largest banking center in the United States,” said Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. “Daimler Truck knows the proximity to its existing manufacturing operations, combined with our excellent business climate and thriving financial sector, makes North Carolina the best place to grow and expand.”
