A 5.5-mile section of the Appalachian Trail that has been closed since Hurricane Helene struck has reopened.
The section at Iron Mountain Gap, along the Tennessee-North Carolina line, had been rerouted for more than a year while crews removed dead trees that fell during the storm.
The reopening restores access to the stretch of trail that was impacted by damage from Hurricane Helene.
