The Civil War in North Carolina

http://66.225.205.104/CT20111102.mp3

The Civil War in North Carolina: Our State Magazine North Carolina had a remarkable and complicated role in the Civil War, and there seemed to be a civil war within the Civil War here, with neighbors waging war on each other. The conflict here was perhaps a microcosm of the larger conflict around the country. Author and UNC-Wilmington professor Philip Gerard is writing a monthly series for Our State Magazine about the experiences of the Civil War in North Carolina - not the battles, but the experiences of wives and children left at home, slaves and freed slaves, and even the soldiers. We'll talk about why this series is so different from other histories of Civil War North Carolina and you may learn some things you didn't know about the war. Guest Philip Gerard - Writer of fiction and non-fiction, he's writing a monthly series The Civil War - Life in North Carolina: 1861-1865 for Our State Magazine. The series is expected to last several years. He's also a creative writing professor at UNC Wilmington. Add and read comments
