Part One: Charlotte Symphony and Digital Animation The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra is adding a visual element to their upcoming performance of Ravel's Bolero. They've commissioned visual artist Matthew Weinstein to create an digitally animated video to be displayed above the musicians during the performance. We'll meet the artist and talk about how the partnership occurred, and we'll talk about the exhibition of Mr. Weinstein's work that will be displayed at the Mint Museum as well. Vadim Kolpakov (center) & Via Romen Part Two: Gypsy Guitarist Vadim Kolpakov There are hidden gems all around us, from talented singers and actors to highly skilled professionals of all types. One local talent may be more surprising than most. Vadim Kalpakov is a Russian immigrant in Charlotte who also may just be the greatest Gypsy guitarist in the world. Kalpokav and his band, Via Romen, plays what he calls Nuevo Romany music which is based on traditional gypsy forms. Kalpakov has become so well known for his brand of playing that Madonna put him in her band for a world tour. We'll meet Mr. Kalpakov and learn more about gypsy music.
