Two Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers are recovering after being shot Friday while trying to serve a warrant on a wanted suspect in northeast Charlotte. The suspect was killed.
Speaking late Friday, Police Chief Johnny Jennings said he’s relieved the officers who were shot will survive.
"Thank God the officers are going to be OK. They're going to have a full recovery, but you know, you also have to look at the fact that they were forced to take a life this evening and nobody wants to have to go through that," he said.
The officers’ and suspect’s name hadn’t been released as of Sunday evening.
It’s been less than a year since four officers were killed serving a warrant on another suspect, in what was the deadliest day for law enforcement in Charlotte history.
