Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ chief communications officer Tracy Russ announced Thursday that he’s stepping down immediately.
Russ was hired by Clayton Wilcox, who resigned under pressure from the school board early this month. His departure could be the start of a staff shakeup under new Superintendent Earnest Winston.
Russ posted on Facebook Thursday that “it is time to take a breath in life” and he plans to take time for reflection. He said his last day will be Friday.
"It has been a privilege and joy to work with talented, dedicated and hard-working CMS colleagues," Russ wrote. "No endeavor could be more rewarding than empowering and inspiring people through story and communications."
Russ just led a rebranding effort for CMS that included launching a new WeAreCMS.com website.
