Students Push Again for Football at UNCC
Last December, a 12-member panel unanimously recommended that UNC Charlotte start a football program by raising student fees. The group says a football team would increase the school's visibility. On Thursday, Chancellor Phil DuBois is expected to give his recommendation to the board of trustees. Sophomore Job Fickett of the student government association says it's hard to tell what DuBois has decided. "It's like the Christmas presents and you want to know what's in the box before you open it. But I hope he says yes. And if he does it will be an excellent day for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte," he says. Fickett says thousands of dollars have been spent on a campaign to get football on campus. If approved, the team in the division formerly known as Division 1-AA would move up to college football's top division four years later.
