Ben Bernanke, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, is in Charlotte today to speak at a meeting of bankers, investors and academics. Bernanke's comments are highly anticipated, given his central role in the financial bailout. When the Chairman of the Fed speaks, people listen. He helms the group of regulators that can change interest rates, drive inflation - and lately - throw a life vest to a sinking bank. So UNC-Charlotte banking professor Tony Plath says it's unusual that Bernanke would choose to make comments at today's symposium, which is just the latest in many such meetings the Federal Reserve sponsors across the country. Except, that today's symposium is in Charlotte, and Plath says this city matters a lot to Bernanke.
