The Charlotte region's unemployment rate increased last month to 12 percent after a slight decline in April. WFAE's Devo'n Williams has more: The Charlotte region continued to lose manufacturing and government jobs in May. But financial services did see a slight come back. Wachovia Chief Economist John Silvia says over the last few months some companies have set up operations in the area. "We had a lot of financial talent here that had left the banks and now is seeking a home. And a lot of these firms realize that there's a lot of good talent here and they're taking advantage of it by coming here," says Silvia. The hospitality industry saw the biggest job gains in the Charlotte area, adding about 2,300 workers last month. The Hickory region once again had the highest unemployment rate for metro areas in North Carolina at 15.4 percent in May.
