Five years ago, LA Times columnist Steve Lopez was walking back to his office and came upon a homeless man playing Beethoven on a two-string violin in the park. Lopez thought Ayers would make a good column. He didn't realize he had stumbled upon a Julliard-trained musician. The column ended up turning into a book called The Soloist which then became a movie. Lately Lopez has been traveling the country talking to groups about the lessons Ayers has taught him. WFAE's Lisa Miller caught up with him this week in Charlotte, where he was speaking at a fundraiser for the Urban Ministry Center.
