US Airways merger could strengthen Charlotte's role as hub

US Airways has been in the news lately, as the company discusses a possible merger with United. The last merger US Air was a part of came about five years ago. In the spring of 2005, the airline announced a marriage with America West. Immediately after that news broke, Charlotte's role in the larger company came into question. As it turns out, the merger has solidified Charlotte's role as a hub airport. US Airways has expanded operations here, while diminishing the role of other airports in its system. The Charlotte Business Journal recently wrote about the current state of Charlotte's airport. WFAE's Scott Graf spoke with reporter Erik Spanburg about its growing role within the airline.
