The first of six public forums on potential CMS school closings and boundary changes will be held tonight at Hopewell High. Each meeting will focus on a different set of schools. Tonight's forum will address changes at seven schools in north Mecklenburg County. They include Davidson IB, Alexander Middle and Hornets Nest. Ruth Pilsbury is the head of Davidson IB's PTSA. She says parents can't understand why the district would want to close such a high-performing school because the building is old. "I don't think you could find a parent who would choose not to go to this school because of the building," says Pilsbury. "In fact, it's a great example of how the building is not a hindrance to the education." CMS says transferring the program to Alexander Middle will allow the district to accept more students in the IB program. The school board hopes to make a final decision on school closings by November ninth. Public Forum Schedule can be found here.
