Roberts Won't Seek Re-election To Mecklenburg County Commission
Jennifer Roberts Mecklenburg County Commission Chairwoman Jennifer Roberts isn't planning on running for re-election next year. The Democratic commissioner says she joined the board in 2004 expecting only to serve eight years. "It seems like a good amount of time. I feel like we have made tremendous progress in the county," says Roberts. "I feel like there are a number of initiatives underway that are steering us in a great direction for the future and I think it's time to look for the next step for me and to help someone else play a vital for helping our county move forward." During her time in office, Roberts has pushed for more funding of CMS, expanding the park system, and raising environmental standards. Roberts says she's not planning to leave public service, but she wouldn't be more specific. She did say she's keeping her campaign account open. In an email to supporters, she hinted at what could be her next campaign platform. She said she's offended by what she calls assaults on voting rights, attacks on individual liberties, and the growth of inequality.
