ReVenture Off Superfund List

The EPA has removed the ReVenture industrial park from its Superfund national priorities list. The site, which sits on 667 acres along the Catawba River in western Mecklenburg County, had been on the list since 1983. ReVenture is owned by Forsite Development where Tom McKittrick is the president. "Now that the Superfund label is removed, we can move on with some of those projects that we couldn't have before," said McKittrick. Coming off the Superfund list allows ReVenture to apply for brownfields designation, which makes it eligible for EPA grants. While the site is still contaminated, it has been deemed safe enough for redevelopment. While McKittrick says there are at least two companies interested in developing at ReVenture Park, there are no current tenants. One of the most high profile prospective developments at the park was a trash-to-electricity power plant that was significantly downgraded last year.
