Union County Schools Decide To Cut 403 Classroom Jobs
The Union County School board has decided to cut 53 teachers and 350 teaching assistants next school year. The district is dealing with a $10 million shortfall between state budget cuts and the loss of federal stimulus money. Superintendent Ed Davis says the district will re-hire those positions if state funding is higher than expected. Over the past three years the district has reduced its staff by 10 percent to deal with budget shortfalls.
