A man who barricaded himself in a South Charlotte apartment complex was taken into custody by SWAT Thursday afternoon.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the incident began Thursday morning when officers attempted to serve Todd O’Brien Houston, 30, with 32 felony arrest warrants. Before police could apprehend him, Houston fled in a stolen car and was pursued by the helicopter unit.
Around 11:30 a.m., police followed Houston to the McAlpine Ridge Apartments off Krefeld Glen Drive. When officers arrived on scene, Houston barricaded himself in a stairway armed with a handgun. Police evacuated the residents and called in a SWAT team and negotiators.
After a stand-off with SWAT that lasted for at least five hours, Houston surrendered and was taken into custody.
