Police say a string of armed robberies this morning — that included a carjacking — ended when the stolen car crashed in Lancaster, South Carolina, killing the driver and injuring the man in the passenger seat.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the crime spree began at 3 a.m. in the First Ward neighborhood in uptown, where the two suspects robbed a man at gunpoint of his 2004 Lexus SUV. Police say over next two hours, the men robbed three gas stations, including a 7-Eleven and a Circle K in Cotswold, and a 7-Eleven in Matthews.
At 5 a.m., the two men ultimately crashed the Lexus in Lancaster, according to police. The driver was killed and the passenger, identified as Daniel Hughes, was injured. He was transported to a hospital. Police say they are seeking warrants for his arrest.
