Concord police have identified the victim in a fatal shooting at Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast Wednesday afternoon.
Police say Damon Fard Bruce, of Concord, was treated at the hospital for a gunshot wound to the head. He later died from injuries sustained in the shooting, authorities say.
The shooting occurred around 1 p.m. in the hospital parking lot, according to a spokesperson for Atrium Health. Hospital security and Concord Police responded to the scene.
Police confirmed the suspect has been detained, but have not released the suspect's name. Concord PD said on Twitter that this was not a random "active shooter" event, but rather an altercation between two people who knew each other.
The health care system said the emergency department at the hospital was on restricted access for a time Wednesday afternoon, but operations have now returned to normal.
