More than 100 students have been forced to find a new school after their private school in east Charlotte suddenly announced it’s shutting down for good.
According to WSOC-TV, the 6-12 Legacy Preparatory School said on Friday it would not reopen for the spring semester, which was to begin Jan. 7. The school was located in the Park Expo and Conference Center next to Bojangles' Coliseum.
In an email to parents, principal Stacey Rose said the school’s primary investor did not come through on a promise for scholarship funding, leaving no choice but to close.
Legacy Preparatory School was formerly the charter school the Charlotte Learning Academy. The state school board revoked the school’s charter last spring citing poor academic performance.
