Lassiter kicks off his campaign for Charlotte Mayor
Lassiter says Charlotte needs to keep taxes low, provide training opportunities for laid-off workers, and maintain roads and transit infrastructure to recover from the economic downturn. He touted his experience as chairman of the city council's economic development committee and said growing business and job opportunities is the number one issue facing Charlotte. "I'm uniquely qualified to provide leadership in that area. I've got a track record of making things happen not just in the more affluent, in the Center City, but things have happened along Wilkinson Boulevard, things have happened along North Tryon Street, things are happening here. And I'm committed to the kind of economic recovery that's going to make this city special," said Lassiter. He's serving his third term on the city council. Before that, Lassiter was a member of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools board for eleven years.
