A new poll from East Carolina University shows North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson losing support from Republicans and falling farther behind his Democratic opponent, Attorney General Josh Stein, in the race for North Carolina governor.
The poll, published Tuesday, showed Robinson's support among Republicans had plunged by 20 percentage points since ECU's previous poll conducted in early September.
In the previous poll, Robinson had the support of 83% of Republicans and 32% of independents. Now, Robinson has the support of 63% of Republicans and 30% of independents.
The new poll also found Stein's lead over Robinson growing. In the last poll, Stein had a 6% lead, which had now grown to 17%.
The poll of 1,005 registered voters was conducted in the days after CNN published a bombshell report linking Robinson to dozens of racist, lewd and incendiary comments made on a porn site more than a decade ago.
The comments included Robinson allegedly calling himself a "black NAZI," saying slavery was not bad, saying he enjoyed transgender pornography, and writing about "peeping" on women in public gym showers as a teenager. Robinson has denied the story.
The same ECU poll found the presidential race in North Carolina remains tight, with former President Trump holding a thin 2-point lead over Vice President Kamala Harris — within the margin of error.
