Central Piedmont Dance Theatre presents Sunlight & Solstice '23
Central Piedmont Dance Theatre will present their concert series Sunlight and Solstice at The Parr Center Theatre Nov 29, 30, and Dec 1 at 12:00 noon! The program will include Tracie Chan's new children's ballet, "The Snowman," based on the classic children's story. The other two works on the program are works by two of the four pioneers of American Modern Dance, Martha Graham and Charles Weidman. Kim Jones, UNCC faculty, will stage Graham's "Adorations" and Clay Daniel will stage excerpts of Weidman's "Christmas Oratorio." For you history buffs, this will be the first time a Weidman work and a Graham work have appeared on the same program in more than 70 years! This concert series has something for everyone - and is not to be missed!
Christmas in SouthPark
Christmas in SouthPark
Tuesday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Sharon Presbyterian Church. Christmas in SouthPark is a community-wide concert service held in the Sharon Presbyterian Church Sanctuary to mark the start of the Advent season. We will welcome the SouthPark community to witness the story of the birth of Jesus through song. This event will feature instrumentalists from the Charlotte Symphony, local singers and musicians, as well as the Sharon Presbyterian Chancel Choir. There will also be opportunities to sing along to some of your favorite Christmas carols. Rejoice with us as we fill the Sanctuary with the sounds of the season!
Miracle on 34th Street
"This is a tale that we want to believe in, that creates a world we seem to desperately desire, free of the blatant commercialism that surrounds us, where love and decency and generosity of spirit are their own rewards. What we want Christmas to be all about, really."
So writes the Santa Cruz Sentinel of this most heartwarming holiday story. By chance, Kris Kringle, an old man in a retirement home, gets a job working as Santa for Macy's. Kris unleashes waves of good will with Macy's customers and the commercial world of New York City by referring parents to other stores to find exactly the toy their child has asked for. Seen as deluded and dangerous by Macy's vocational counselor, who plots to have Kris shanghaied to Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital, Kris ends up in a court competency hearing. Especially at stake is one little girl's belief in Santa. In a dramatic decision, the court confirms Kris as the true Santa, allowing Susan and countless other children to experience the joy of childhood fantasy.
For this production, we are partnering with Christmas 4 Moore to provide Christmas gifts to those in need in our community. To donate, bring toys to our performances!
