  • The Charlotte Music Club presents Handel's Messiah, Part 1 and the beloved Hallelujah Chorus. The performance features the Charlotte Community Chorus and Orchestra under the direction of Ginger Wyrick with soloists Cynthia Farbman Harris, Kristen Wonderlich, Eric Laine, and John Blizzard.   • Carolina Pro Musica presents their annual holiday concert Friday, December 13, 2024, at 7:30 pm at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1001 Queens Rd, Charlotte, NC 28207. The program features narrator Bob (Max) Sweeten telling the Christmas story in readings and poetry. Music will be with 18th-century instruments (baroque recorder, flauto traverso, viola da gamba, harpsichord, and guitar) and voices. Works include carols for all to sing, chant and selections by J.S. Bach, Telemann, Zipoli, and Alessandro Scarlatti. The ensemble will appear in period attire.

  • A one-day, special event that brings together over 36 of Western North Carolina’s most talented potters to showcase and sell their work, while raising vital funds to support hurricane relief efforts.

    All the potters in this sale are from areas impacted by the hurricane and have suffered damage to their homes and/orstudios and suffered lost income.

    Admission to the show is free, though donations are suggested that will go to organizations in WNC, selected by the potters, that are providing important support to artists and their communities. Parking is $10.

  • Pet in the City is partnering with Fromm Family Foods to host a weekend-long Give Back event benefitting local rescue group South Charlotte Dog Rescue, a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the South Charlotte Area. Throughout the weekend, thirty percent of all Fromm sales from the three-day event will be donated to South Charlotte Dog Rescue.

    The event will feature a Photos with Santa Event on Saturday, December 14 from 12:00 to 3:00pm, with a variety of local pet vendors will be in attendance. It’s the perfect place to get all your holiday shopping in for your four-legged loved ones! The event is free, but donations to South Charlotte Dog Rescue are highly encouraged.

    A father tidies up an unfinished life after the death of his son.
    Friday Night Blind, directed by Cott Krahn and Robb Fischer
    At Burnham Bowl, the mixed Milwaukee Beer Barrels Blind Bowling League emphasizes friendship, fun, and living one frame at a time. Friday Night Blind features three visually impaired bowling friends in this heartwarming tale.

    The screenings will be followed by a talkback with Madison Hill and Gavin Jennings Harwell.

  • Gaston College is starting a new holiday tradition this year: a Stuff-A-Bus Toy Drive for Toys for Tots. The College invites the community to join it in collecting new and unwrapped toys for kids ages 0-12.

    The College will collect toys from Dec. 2-5 at the following locations:

  • Join us for the second annual Christmas in SouthPark! Christmas in SouthPark is a community-wide service held in the Sharon Presbyterian Church Sanctuary to mark the start of the Advent season. We will welcome the SouthPark community to witness the story of the birth of Jesus through song.

    This event will feature instrumentalists from the Charlotte Symphony, local singers and musicians, as well as the Sharon Presbyterian Chancel Choir. There will also be opportunities to sing along to some of your favorite Christmas carols. Rejoice with us as we fill the Sanctuary with the sounds of the season!

    Since 2016, Tosco Music has gathered for a festive concert each December for Tosco Music Holiday Party, transforming Knight Theater into Charlotte's living room for an evening of holiday songs and singalongs. As with all Tosco Music Parties, the evening will feature an eclectic mix of more than a dozen diverse performers and plenty of singalongs with Tosco Music's House Band and Singalong Choir. Enjoy your favorite holiday tunes, classic and contemporary songs of the season, delivered in a variety of musical genres.

    The wide variety of performers each year always showcases emerging talent including a youth performer. This year opening the show is Willow Dixon who was recently featured in a WFAE feature when she performed at a recent Tosco Music Open Mic.

    We've been treated to many creative arrangements and new holiday originals over the years. This year we're excited for local performing artist Shana Blake to debut her newest release, It's a Ho-Ho-Ho Christmas, a Christmas song she co-wrote with her grandma Dot Lorenz who turns 101 in December!   • The Charlotte, NC Chapter of the American Harp Society’s Christmas Concert is an ensemble of local harpists of all ages and levels, directed by Dr. Catie Jackson. This multi-generational outreach to our community will most certainly put you in the Christmas spirit! The concert is free to the public, with donations to CCAHS gladly accepted.

Goded reveals the harsh realities they navigate—abuse, fear, and the emotional toll of selling intimacy—while also honoring their histories, families, superstitions, and dreams. “Plaza de la Soledad” captures the beauty and complexity of their bodies, reminding us of their strength and humanity.

    Enjoy a cash bar and popcorn. Introduction by Chief Curator Jen Sudul Edwards, PhD, at 6 PM, followed by the film screening.

    Hearts United for Good is dedicated to addressing and identifying gaps and needs within Mecklenburg County and its often overlooked and marginalized populations.
    On Tuesday, December 17 from 6-9pm, come out to the brewery and meet the HUG organization and their resident DJ Bethany as she spins some groovy tunes. There will be a food truck, a raffle with some huge prizes and a clothing drive you can participate in!

    •Drop off any new or gently-worn cold-weather items (coats, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, etc.) to the brewery beginning December 1st through the 17th.

  • This lecture by Joshua Shumak, Native American Affairs Program Coordinator for the SC Commission for Minority Affairs, explores the history of Native American recognition in South Carolina and future goals for cultural preservation and community development.
