  • LaTasha Morrison, nationally known author, speaker, and founder of the “Be the Bridge” Movement, will lead a seminar about racial equity and healing called “Courageous Conversations” at Light of Christ United Methodist Church in Charlotte on Saturday, September 10th. This event is open to the community, with advance registration required because seating is limited. The event will begin at 9:00am and end by 3:00pm. The church is located at 9106 Bryant Farms Road, Charlotte NC 28277. There is no cost to attend, child care is available at no cost if reserved at the time of registration, and all are welcomed.

Ms. Morrison is a speaker, author, reconciler, bridge-builder and leader, committed to educating people about cultural intelligence and racial literacy. She describes her “I founded Be the Bridge in 2016 to encourage racial reconciliation among all ethnicities, to promote racial unity in America, and to equip others to do the same. But Bridge-building has always been a part of who I am. I am here to help change the conversation and train others to have a new lens and gain a different perspective. But we won’t stop there. I want people telling other people what they learn. I want to see reproduction—meaning those who learn from me will not remain stagnant, but instead start pulling other people into the conversation. With empathy and grace, I guide leaders and organizations to cultural competency through dynamic presentations and conscious-raising workshops and one-on-one coaching.”

Lead Pastor of Light of Christ United Methodist Church, Rev. Marianne Romanat, describes the motivation to host the event this way: “As a church, we have been having ‘Courageous Conversations’ about the beauty of diversity, the challenge of listening, and what it means to be an ally. We hope to invite those who live in greater Charlotte into the ongoing conversation about racial equity and healing, which is complicated and needed in our country. Ms. Morrison’s message creates understanding about how the Gospel naturally leads to humbling oneself, recognizing one’s part in perpetuating disunity, and then taking positive steps, finding strength to be a Bridge builder in daily living. The Christian faith is an ideal platform for seeking reconciliation, recognizing the image of God in all persons, and loving our neighbors.”

This event is co-sponsored by Light of Christ Church, Carolina Cross Connection, the United Methodist Foundation of Western NC, the Office of Equity & Justice Ministries of the Western NC Conference and the Catawba Valley and Metro Districts of the United Methodist Church. An optional love offering will be received at the event to allow attendees to support the “Be the Bridge” Movement.

Lunch will be sold to attendees during the event by “In The Army Que” Barbeque Family Business. Gluten-Free, Vegetarian and Vegan options can be available if indicated on your registration.

Questions? Contact the church office by emailing locumc@locumc.org or calling 980-355-0637. To register to attend this event, visit locumc.org/events . Light of Christ is a church "where the hurting find help and the questioning find faith".
