"Dancing Our Prayers" with Mending Wings youth group of the Yakama Nation
A Native American youth group from Washington state is visiting Charlotte! They will be sharing “Dancing Our Prayers” (DOP) at Avondale Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 10 AM. This service is by a team of Native teens of the Yakama Nation who travel locally, regionally, and nationally sharing their culture, spirituality, and way of life. Youth and staff of the DOP program of Mending Wings will drum and dance in full regalia, perform drama, give testimony, and speak on conciliation issues between Native and non-Native America. The greater community is invited to attend, bringing an open heart and mind, to experience this spiritual time of learning. EQUALibrium: A Public Conversation on Race and Equity in Charlotte
Eight years ago Charlotte ranked 50 out of 50 in an upward mobility study from Harvard University. This bleak outlook for Charlotte's poorest residents was a wake up call for city officials and community members.
"EQUALibrium: A Public Conversation on Race and Equity in Charlotte" looks at what's been done and what still needs to happen to achieve upward mobility.
Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles and others will discuss on Tuesday, March 8. This event is the first for WFAE's Race & Equity Team.

DISTINGUISHED LEADERS IN ACTION PANEL DISCUSSION: HUMAN CAPITAL AND COVID - WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

NCAAHC Virtual Talk
Join us as we celebrate Black History Month with a talk from Adrienne Nirdé, the Associate Director of the North Carolina African American Heritage Commission (NCAAHC) on February 26th from 11am-Noon. Learn about NCAAHC’s work preserving, protecting, and promoting North Carolina’s African American history, art, and culture. Hear about their initiatives, cultural trails, and the impact they are making across the state.
The Great Backyard Bird Count
Every bird counts! It’s time for the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), a joint project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. Quietly stroll through the gardens or find a spot to sit and watch, counting birds and recording what you observe, which helps scientists in their study of birds. Volunteers from Wing Haven will be on hand providing guided walks, sharing educational information, and enjoying the count alongside you or your group. Recommended for everyone - children and adults, from bird novices to bird experts! Garden admission is FREE during the event - join us anytime 8 AM - 12 PM: - Friday, February 18* - Saturday, February 19* - Sunday, February 20 - Monday, February 21 * After 12 PM regular garden admission applies. All children attending the program must be registered individually, and there is a limit of one caretaker per child. We ask that you arrive 10 minutes early to claim your registration spot. Any spots that have been unclaimed 5 minutes before the program’s start time will be given to walk-in participants. Masks are encouraged.
Movers and Shakers Storytime
Have fun listening to stories, singing songs, learning rhymes, and participating in movement activities that will enhance a love of books and introduce children to a world of imagination. This program is for ages 3-5 years old. Each Storytime will have age-appropriate activities to promote and extend literacy at home. *Registration Required* Register online or call the library at 704-664-2927 to reserve your spot.
