Teens, love to write? Join our teen writing group on the first Thursday of each month to build your writing skills and connect with other teen writers!
Saturday STEM
Children and families will be encouraged to experiment and explore the world of science by participating in simple experiments. Join each month to learn and explore the world around you! *Registration Required* Register online or call the library at 704-664-2927 to reserve your spot. All children attending the program must be registered individually, and there is a limit of one caretaker per child. We ask that you arrive 10 minutes early to claim your registration spot. Any spots that have been unclaimed 5 minutes before the program’s start time will be given to walk-in participants. Masks are encouraged.
Movers and Shakers Storytime
Have fun listening to stories, singing songs, learning rhymes, and participating in movement activities that will enhance a love of books and introduce children to a world of imagination. This program is for ages 3-5 years old. Each Storytime will have age-appropriate activities to promote and extend literacy at home. *Registration Required* Register online or call the library at 704-664-2927 to reserve your spot. S.M.A.R.T. Kids: Science, Math and the Arts
*Registration Required* School age children will get to experiment and explore the world of Science, Math and Art by participating in simple experiments. LEGO Club
Children of all ages can come and enjoy building and playing with LEGO’s. This program will allow for children to connect with other builders and work on creating different structures or a new challenge each month. Slave Dwelling Weekend Project
Join us at the President James K. Polk State Historic Site for the Slave Dwelling Project Weekend led by Mr. Joseph McGill, Founder and Executive Director of the Slave Dwelling Project. On April 29, 2022, visit us 8pm - 10pm for a conversation about how to discuss the institution of slavery at historic site around a campfire in “The Stories We Tell: Fireside Conversation.” Spaces are limited, so sign up ahead of time at jameskpolk.net/events.html. On April 30, 2022, join us for a whole day of living history to learn about the lives of the enslaved in “Inalienable Rights: Living History Through the Eyes of the Enslaved.” Hear from first-person interpreters, watch blacksmith and masonry demonstrations, and learn about the people who were enslaved on the Polk farm. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children 5-12 and seniors 62+.
CSO Off the Rails
Your Charlotte Symphony is going off the rails - and across the railroad tracks to Snug Harbor! Curated by clarinetist Samuel Sparrow, a trio of CSO musicians will perform high-voltage, avant-garde works at the Plaza Midwood venue. Enjoy an evening of innovative, unconventional works, featuring "And Legions Will Rise" by contemporary composer Kevin Puts. Arts at the Abbey: Lopez-Tabor Duo
Alfonso Lopez, violin and Michele Tabor, piano return to Belmont Abbey for a concert of music from Europe and the Americas including the USA, Cuba, Peru, and Venezuela. Returning to our series for the fifth time the duo never fails to please. Selections range from classical to works that migrated to the popular music field. The January 24, 2022, concert will be held at 8:00 PM in the Abbey Basilica, Belmont, NC. There will be in-person attendance with masks required. The concert is free to the public. Communication Counts 5k
On Saturday, February 26, 2022, Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center will host its third annual Communication Counts Walk/Run at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte. Friends and family members will join together for a 5K walk/run, Kids Dash, and Senior Stroll in the park. This event will raise critical funds that provide access to superior speech-language and hearing services that empower and transform lives to anyone in need in our community.
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Directed by Emmanuel Barbe, this classic tale follows the story of two young lovers separated by their parent’s hatred for one another. Reconciliation is possible but at a terrible cost. Join us for the story that has survived centuries of re-telling. Iconic, dynamic, poetic, and above all, romantic - Free Reign Theatre is proud to bring you, William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Rated PG-13 for intimacy and simulated violence between characters.
Lecture Series: Wacky World of Plants
Virtual program offering: Due to continued public health concerns, this program will only be offered virtually via Zoom. Speaker: Michael Perry - Gardener, designer, blogger known as 'Mr. Plant Geek’ Michael Perry introduces us to his weird and wacky plant show featuring some of the biggest, smallest, unluckiest, smelliest and otherwise fascinating plants! A self-proclaimed plant geek, he will share some great stories about these unusual plants, perhaps inspiring you to check them out yourself! Art Exhibit "All Riot on the Western Front"
Lenoir NC artist Tyler Stephens, a/k/a “Sour Steve,” will present his hand cut collage art exhibition “All Riot on the Western Front” at the Caldwell Arts Council April 1-May 27, 2022. By combining vintage pre-war and post-war adverts of the 1930’s-1950’s with more modern imagery of our current political and social landscape, Sour Steve’s art challenges the viewer to confront the incongruities and political paradoxes of our modern society. The Caldwell Arts council is open Tuesday-Friday 9am-5pm.

"Inventive" (ArtsKnoxville) conductor Joshua Gersen leads a program anchored by the haunting and poetic Violin Concerto by American composer Samuel Barber with violinist Jinjoo Cho.
