  • The Charlotte Chorale, under the direction of Mitchell Lewis, will be bringing the messages of Christmas to life through song as they present “Christmas Tidings” on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the New Theater at CPCC.

The evening begins with the message that on this night Jesus will bring us joy as you’ll hear during the moving “Christmas Canon”. “Mary Did You Know?” tells the story that Mary will give birth to a son and name him Jesus because he will save his people from their sins. The Chorale will spread the good news that we should rejoice because a Savior will be born with “Veni, Veni Emmanuel” and other selections.

After a brief intermission the Charlotte Chorale will head to the North Pole and be enveloped by the “Spirit of the Season” filling our hearts with loving care and encouraging everyone to share it. While reading letters to Santa, it shows that not everyone believes, so “Yes Virginia” answers the questions that there is a Santa Claus and we should let his season live in us. At the North Pole, we’ll stroll down “Candy Cane Lane” showing that even just a hint of peppermint makes everything feel like Christmas. We’ll also learn through “Sparklejollytwinklejingley” that we should to thine own elf be true. So tinsel up every corner and give the world a holiday that is bright as can be. And one simple phrase for kids from 1 to 92 is “Merry Christmas to you” as told with “The Christmas Song”.

It is an evening of music and fun. Audience members can take a family photo in the lobby at our Christmas photo display, write a letter to Santa and listen to what the elves are up to at the North Pole with our Holly Jolly Hotline.

The concert is 75 minutes long which includes a 15 minute intermission and the choir will be accompanied by a musical combo.

Come hear the messages of Christmas at “Christmas Tidings” at 7pm on December 17, 2022 at the New Theater at CPCC.

With a mission focused on cultural enrichment and accessibility to live choral music within the Charlotte community, The Charlotte Chorale also prides itself in giving back. To fulfill this mission, we will be collecting money for our Buy A Biscuit For a Soldier program at the concert. Each year the Charlotte Chorale donates thousands of sausage biscuits to the USO to feed soldiers as they travel through the Charlotte Douglas International Airport on their way home for the holidays.

Hiring Construction Career Opportunities for “The Pearl” Innovation District

CHARLOTTE, NC – If Charlotte is your oyster, at the heart of it is a new Pearl of opportunity. Located at the intersection of Baxter Street and McDowell Street in Midtown Charlotte is the future site of The Pearl innovation district, a mixed-use development featuring education, retail, apartments, a hotel, and an open community space.

“The Pearl construction project will generate thousands of jobs, and Atrium is firmly committed to ensuring that individuals from underserved communities with an interest in the construction industry have ample opportunity to become employed on the project,” R.J. Leeper Construction LLC Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Kimberly Henderson said.

By connecting to workforce partners such as NCWorks, Henderson’s team has identified areas of opportunity for job seekers within construction-industry careers. The first Construction Careers Connection Series is open to the public and held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, from 10 am - 2 pm.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library at 2412 Beatties Ford Road is hosting the event. This first session will be informational with hiring opportunities. Workforce partners are also invited to attend to learn more about the variety of roles needed for the multi-year project.

“These type of programs reaffirm our commitment to the communities we serve to bring the programs and resources they deserve and desire to ensure future success for all,” Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Program Manager - Workforce Development David Sniffen said. “We offer on-demand help, one-on-one assistance and have programs and services to assist in every step of the career development process.”

At this time the land is being leveled for the first phase of construction in the first quarter of 2023. According to Henderson, they are currently seeking individuals with carpentry, masonry, concrete, HVAC and electrical experience, as well as heavy equipment operators, steel welders, fabricators, erectors, installers flaggers and general laborers.

“We’re excited to work with companies who are offering job seekers new construction career opportunities,” NCWorks Business Solutions Consultant Terrell Roberts said. “Job seekers can bring their talents to this truly ground-level project that will be a part of Charlotte’s future growth,”

The Pearl will create an innovation ecosystem, grounded in research and academics, to attract businesses, incubate new ideas, attract venture funding and scale small businesses into the companies of Charlotte’s future. The first phase of the District includes Charlotte’s first four-year medical school, Wake Forest University School of Medicine Charlotte.

Although walk-ins are welcome for the first of the Construction Careers Connection Series, job seekers and workforce partners are encouraged to RSVP. The event’s agenda will include a continental breakfast, company representative introductions, a project presentation, and open table discussions with company representatives.

Job seekers and workforce partners interested in attending may RSVP by registering online at https://ConstructionCareerConnection.eventbrite.com. Job seekers are encouraged to bring their resumes and be prepared to meet face-to-face with company representatives.

For job seekers who may need assistance before the event, NCWorks does provide a variety of career readiness workshops that assist with resumes and job interviews, among other skills. • Common Thread Theatre Collective (CTTC), a collaboration between Davidson College and North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T), is pleased to announce its third season of summer productions. Continuing with a mission to produce theatre by and about traditionally underrepresented communities, this season CTTC will produce the Pulitzer-Prize winning show by North Carolina native James Ijames, Fat Ham, directed by Vanecia Boone, NC A&T Theatre Professor. The play will take place in June 2024, in the Barber Theatre on the campus of Davidson College in Davidson, NC, this season will mark the first performances by CTTC in Greensboro at the Paul Robeson Theatre on NC A&T’s campus

Award-winning playwright Ijames reinvents Shakespeare’s masterpiece Hamlet as a delectable comedic tragedy. The lead character Juicy is a queer, Southern college kid, already grappling with some serious questions of identity, when the ghost of his father shows up in their backyard, demanding that Juicy avenge his murder. It feels like a familiar story to Juicy, who is well-versed in Hamlet’s woes. What’s different is Juicy himself, a sensitive and self-aware young Black man trying to break the cycles of trauma and violence in service of his own liberation. From an uproarious family barbecue emerges a compelling examination of love and loss, pain and joy. [From Concord Theatricals]
