  • While hiding from bullies in his school’s attic, a young boy discovers the extraordinary land of Fantasia, through a magical book called The Neverending Story. The book tells the tale of Atreyu, a young warrior who, with the help of a luck dragon named Falkor, must save Fantasia from the destruction of The Nothing.

  • The Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room and The Charlotte Museum of History Present: An Evening with Tommy Tomlinson
    Tommy Tomlinson, one of Charlotte’s favorite writers, will talk about his new book Dogland: Passion, Glory, and Lots of Slobber at the Westminster Dog Show as well as his lengthy writing career which has taken him down many paths. Famed for his open account of his life, The Elephant in the Room, a memoir about being overweight in America. Tommy is also the host of the podcast SouthBound in partnership with WFAE, Charlotte’s NPR station. He has written for numerous publications, including Esquire, ESPN the Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Forbes, Garden & Gun, and many others. Tommy spent twenty-three years as a reporter and local columnist for The Charlotte Observer, where he was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize in commentary.

  • Mark your calendars for Sunday, July 14, 2024, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. for the Summer Fest at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market. What is a Summer Fest, you might ask? Summer Fest is NCDA&CS’ take on celebrating all things local. The variety of N.C. produce is as bright as confetti… and that’s worth celebrating. Corn, watermelon, tomatoes, peaches, you name it!

    There will be free watermelon slices, free peach samples, free tomato sandwiches and free corn recipe cards. The variety of summer produce harvested in North Carolina is abundant.

    The Summer Fest has something for the whole family! There will be blueberry coloring pages and potato stamps for the kids. Remember this amazing event and time spent with family and friends by taking a selfie at our selfie booth.

    We are also turning up the heat during the Summer Fest with NCDA&CS and Master Blend Family Farms’ Ron Simmons. Simmons will be doing cooking demos using local meat and produce. Learn how to grill wagyu burgers, beef tips and barbecue sliders with this experienced pitmaster.

    N.C. agritourism, and our amazing commodities will all be represented during the Summer Fest. Come out to learn more about what our awesome and abundant state produces, sample the flavors of summer and learn how to grill like a boss.

    While at the market, visit the local vendors to purchase products to test your new skills on the grill. The Charlotte Regional Farmers Market vendors are on the grounds Wednesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Remember to keep local products on your grill this summer!

  • Celebrate the 34th Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Anniversary at "Access Charlotte: Disability Resource Showcase", a vibrant resource fair highlighting Charlotte-based organizations dedicated to advocacy and independent living.

    Explore independent living services, tour the Assistive Technology Center, and learn how local organizations are continuing to advocate for the rights and freedoms of disabled citizens. Meet and greet with the disabled community, network with advocates, and enter our raffle giveaway!

    Don't miss this incredible opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate the spirit of the ADA. Let's make a big showing for disability inclusion and independence!
  • Repair Cafés are free meeting places and they’re all about repairing things (together). At a Repair Café event you’ll find tools and materials to help you make any repairs you need. On clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, appliances, toys, et cetera. You’ll also find expert volunteers, with repair skills in all kinds of fields.

    Visitors bring their broken items from home. Together with the specialists they start troubleshooting and repairing the item in the Repair Café. If you have nothing to repair, you could lend a hand with someone else’s repair job.

    There are over 2,500 Repair Cafés worldwide, however the Charlotte group just started this year. We have partnered with the Innovation Barn and hold our events there between 1 and 4pm on Certain Saturdays. If we find enough interest we plan on running these every other month.

  • This summer you can meet T. Rex’s bigger, badder cousin, Giganotosaurus, along with 15 other incredible dinosaurs, but only at Discovery Place Science. Ultimate Dinosaurs: A New Breed of Beast will introduce you to dinosaurs that evolved in isolation in South America, Africa and Madagascar--breeds that are unfamiliar with most North Americans...until now!The exhibition opens June 21 and is only in Charlotte for a limited time. Get your tickets before they become extinct!
  • Presented by Epoch Tribe, The Men Inside is a live, on-stage production that tells the stories of the paths of Black men who have become change-makers in their community. The 2023 show was presented by Epoch Tribe in partnership with the Levine Museum of the New South, the Harvey B. Gantt Center and Smithsonian S.I.T.E.S.

    Originally inspired by the 2023 exhibition, Men of Change: Power. Triumph. Truth., the heart of the show is rooted in deeply personal stories and open-hearted truths of Black men. It's a full-on display of their emotional and interpersonal journeys, as well as a beautiful and bold theatrical exploration of the hearts and minds of Black men through the lens of their life narratives. Through the stories of a few, we see connections to many.
  • Caritas A Cappella Ensemble (Cathy Youngblood, artistic director) and the Charlotte Contemporary Ensemble (JoVan Adams, conductor) join forces to present non-idiomatic choral music of Black composers – works that are not necessarily associated with Afro-American culture (jazz, R&B, or spirituals).

    Composers featured will be James Furman, Nathaniel Dett, Adolphus Hailstork, Rosephanye Powell, Marques L.A. Garrett, Undine Smith, Moses Hogan, Sedrick Dent, Evelyn Simpson Cureton, and Dr. Joel Thompson’s 2014 cantata, Seven Last Words of the Unarmed. The concert culminates in a rousing performance of Richard Smallwood’s Anthem of Praise.

    Music will be enhanced by the digital artwork of artist Zaire McPhearson. The program will be available on CD or by download by the end of summer 2023.

    HEHLEHLOOYUH: A Celebration of Choral Music by Black Composers, will be presented on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at First United Methodist Church of Charlotte, beginning at 4:00pm. General admission $25, Students $5.
    Our nonprofit partner is Brownicity, a local organization offering eye-opening, anti-racism education through customized courses and events with individuals, churches, schools and companies.
