The gerrymandering fight has lived to see another day in a North Carolina court, while the state's elections board continues to make news on its own ahead of a vote on how ballots are cast here.
The 2020 presidential race might be getting the most attention these days, but two key decisions are pending that will impact North Carolina politics next year.
A ruling is expected soon in a just-concluded gerrymandering trial on the constitutionality of North Carolina's General Assembly districts. The trial took place in the shadow of this summer's U.S. Supreme Court ruling that federal courts had no authority to limit partisan gerrymandering. This case, however, questioned if the legislative map was in line with the state's constitution.

Meanwhile, after another warning of Russian influence in U.S. elections and worries about hacking, North Carolina's elections board is deciding how ballots will be cast next year. But the board is cutting it close on making the decision in time for local elections officials to be ready.
