Donald Trump is the first U.S. president to be impeached twice. In 2021, he was impeached for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection in the attack on the U.S. Capitol. In 2020, he was impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress related to a phone call made to the president of Ukraine.

The U.S. Senate is holding a trial on the impeachment of President Trump, who is accused by the House of Representatives of abusing his power and obstructing Congress.

Trump's impeachment last month by the House on those charges. The White House rejects those charges and has called for an acquittal of the president. At issue in the impeachment is whether Trump sought political favors from his Ukrainian counterpart in exchange for the release of military aid. The White House denies any such link was made.
