New York Subway System Centennial

For a century, the subway has rumbled, roared and sputtered under the sidewalks of New York. If you grew up in New York, or lived there for a while, or even just visited, you know that this subway is something else: It's the city's most unifying institution, a badge of identity, a place of legend, and sometimes a nightmare.

Guests:

Lorraine Diehl, author of Subways: The Tracks That Built New York City

Randy Kennedy, author of Subwayland: Adventures in the World Beneath New York. Wrote The New York Time's "Tunnel Vision" column for three years.

Kerry Kent Smith, finalist in the Ms. New York pagent. Mother was Miss Subways 1967.
