Marin Alsop Appointed to Lead Baltimore Symphony

The Baltimore Symphony board of directors has ratified the nomination of Marin Alsop to be the new music director for the Baltimore Symphony. She will be the first woman to head a major American orchestra.

Alsop, 48, is currently principal conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in England.

Her appointment came amid dissent from musicians in the orchestra, who wanted the search process to continue and to see more potential candidates.

Host Fred Child talks with Performance Today producer Roger Wight for details on the Baltimore story.
