A plea deal could be in the works for a Hickory woman accused of killing her 10-year-old stepdaughter a year ago. A defense attorney for Elisa Baker told The Charlotte Observer that he's in talks with a district attorney about resolving the murder charges against Baker as early as tomorrow. Baker is accused of killing Zahra Baker and dismembering her body last fall. She's charged with second degree murder. Yesterday, a Catawba County judge in the case had been expected to announce where Baker's trial will be held. The judge did not announce that decision. Elisa Baker's attorney has requested a change of venue for the trial because of the intense publicity it has received. Read more in the Charlotte Observer.
