opbmusic Presents: JD McPherson
This week, opbmusic and NPR Music present the second episode from the Woods Stage Series, handpicked by opbmusic to showcase some of the most exciting performances from this summer's festival, held at Pendarvis Farm just outside Portland, Ore.
With temperatures hovering near the century mark all weekend long, an overcast sky on the final day of Pickathon gave crowds a much-needed reprieve from the oppressive August heat. But in spite of the cloud cover and cool breezes, everyone at the Woods Stage was still a sweaty mess from dancing during performances like this song from .
On his latest album, Let The Good Times Roll, McPherson brought a little more rock to go along with the classic rockabilly roll he showcased on his breakout debut, Signs And Signifiers. That's not to say it was a departure for the Tulsa native. If anything, Let The Good Times Roll is a more accurate representation of his band's rowdy live sound. The album is littered with thundering upright bass lines, choppy piano licks and crunchy guitars, all of which were on full display during this performance of "You Must Have Met Little Caroline?" played among the trees of this Oregon forest.
