UNC Charlotte has reached a milestone on the school’s largest-ever fundraising campaign.
The university publicly launched the For the Love of Charlotte campaign on Monday, and it has already reached $250 million of its $500 million goal.
The campaign is part of the university’s efforts to connect with the city of Charlotte and grow beyond its roots as a smaller, regional school into a research powerhouse. Scholarships and student opportunities, research funding and expanded and updated facilities are the campaign's three main pillars.
"The momentum we’ve built demonstrates the power of Niner Nation to unite behind a cause. Together, we’re building something truly lasting,” Chancellor Sharon Gaber said in a statement.
Program efforts will be led by six campaign co-chairs who all have graduated from UNC Charlotte.
While it is still early in the university’s campaign, the current total is just shy of equaling the school’s total existing endowment. According to school officials, UNC Charlotte’s endowment was $344.5 million after a recent audited financial statement.
