UNC-Chapel Hill Names Interim Chancellor

UNC Chapel Hill College of Arts and Sciences

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has named an interim leader. College of Arts and Sciences Dean Kevin Guskiewicz was named to serve as interim Chancellor, replacing Carol Folt.

The UNC Board of Governors forced Folt to step down Jan. 31, moving-up her planned departure at the end of the current school year. Folt announced last month that she would step down, after ordering the removal of the stone base that once supported the Silent Sam Confederate statue. Demonstrators toppled the statue last August.

University system acting President Bill Roper has said an interim chancellor would hold the job for as long as 18 months, until a permanent chancellor is found.
