At least 1,193 doses of a Hepatitis A vaccine were given to people in Mecklenburg County at risk of contracting the virus, after an employee at a fast food restaurant was diagnosed with the liver disease.

The county health department estimates about 4,000 people who ate at the Hardee’s on Little Rock Road between June 13 and June 23 are at risk.

Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease can last for weeks to months. The health department is offering free vaccinations to anyone who may be at risk of exposure Thursday at its Billingsley Road and Beatties Ford Road locations.

For people that have been vaccinated according to recommendations for Hepatitis A, the health department isn’t suggesting another dose.

Between July 2016 to November 2017, the Centers for Disease control reported Hepatitis A Outbreaks in California, Utah, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana, and West Virginia.
