Updated: Thursday 5:24 p.m.

A group of more than 40 doctors is planning to leave Novant Health.

Few details have been provided, but a Novant Health spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday that the system is in the process of revising its business relationship with 41 doctors who are leaving the medical group.

It’s unclear exactly who the doctors are and what practice they are affiliated with. Novant says it will share more information when it is finalized. A spokeswoman for practice the doctors will be partnering called Holston Medical Group said its still in conversations with the physicians leaving Novant.

According to HMG's website, it's a large multi-specialty group in Tennessee and Virginia with more than 150 primary care doctors, specialists and mid-level providers.

In a statement a spokesperson said HMG is excited to expand care to the Charlotte community. "As a group of independent physicians with over 40 years of patient-centered private practice, we feel our shared mission to introduce new models of care and technologies that better serve patients and accelerate innovation will lead to improved health and lower costs in the community."

The spokesperson didn't say if the doctors joining the practice were primary care physicians or specialists.

Novant Health has more than 1,500 medical group doctors in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia.

This announcement follows a similar move by more than 80 doctors who were a part of Mecklenburg Medical Group and left Atrium Health last year. That group separated in September following a legal settlement and is now called Tryon Medical Partners.

Atrium Health says since that time it has hired more than 45 new physicians and the health system is continuing recruiting efforts.
