The Charlotte region is home to a lot of people from up North. And Buffalo is perhaps best represented than any other Northern city. About a year ago, WFAE examined this migration to Charlotte. We called our series the Buffalo-Charlotte Connection. It's not just high taxes that have driven Buffalo residents to Charlotte. It's also the poor economy in western New York. So we were a bit surprised to recently read about a survey in Business Week magazine that shows Buffalo as having one of the top 40 metro economies in the U.S. Buffalo was listed at Number 21, while Charlotte didn't even make the list. Have things changed that much? Well, not really, as University of Buffalo professor Robert Silverman explains.
